It’s almost… pitiable? I don’t know what to say. Like, not in an offensive way or anything either. No, what will stick with you is how hard this game tries to be funny and how rarely it manages to do that. But by the time you reach the end of the game, none of that will stick with you. There’s some kind of story lurking about as well. You’ve got a few puzzles about, and frequent twin-stick shooting battles. No scene that will go unlittered by pop culture references and cheap gags. There is no silence it won’t fill with an attempt at a joke. Restless Soul gives us a window into what it would be like to work with that guy. He must be utterly exhausting to be around. He just fires them out there as indiscriminately and frequently as he shoots his webs. Moreover, it doesn’t seem to matter to Spidey whether his jokes are actually funny or not. Here’s the thing: can you imagine being on a team with that guy? The absolutely unending quipping, both in and out of battles? Humor as a distraction method, humor as a defense mechanism, humor as a way to fill awkward silences, humor as a means to bolster one’s shaky self-confidence. He’s also famously a lone wolf, but he’s been doing a lot more team-ups in recent decades. He has cool powers, a neat costume, and he throws out some funny quips while stopping the bad guys. As regular readers know, I’m quite a fan myself. Spider-Man is a really popular superhero. SwitchArcade Score: 3.5/5 Restless Soul ($14.99) Discriminating fighting game aficionados will probably want to look elsewhere for their Switch satisfaction, though. This Switch port is solid enough to play, however, and JoJo fans will likely have a good time with it. If you mean to seriously get into JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R, you’re probably better off heading over to one of the other platforms where it runs at 60 fps. It nails the style of the anime, though I suppose that’s no surprise from this developer. I feel like 60 fps is important for a serious fighter, but it looks and plays decently enough. The original PlayStation 3 game ran at 30 fps, and so does this Switch port. There’s also a ton of single-player content to enjoy, which is good because the online play is extremely hit or miss. More seasoned fighting fans will find a rather unbalanced game, but one with lots of combos and tricks to get the hang of. Someone who doesn’t play a lot of fighting games can jump and and hammer on the buttons to decent results, and the largely 2D nature of the game makes it easy to come to grips with. It’s more on the casual end of things, but there’s some depth to it as well. You know what isn’t lost on me? This is a fun fighting game. There’s a wealth of extra content to unlock and look through, and I’d imagine it’s a treasure pile if you’re a big fan of the series. You get more than fifty characters to use here, drawn from various eras of the long-running franchise. It’s an updated version of a PlayStation 3 fighting game by CyberConnect2, adding ten new characters to the already hefty roster and changing around some of the modes and content. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R is a JoJo fanservice buffet. I just don’t have any experience with it. My total experience with the franchise is as follows: I reviewed the Dreamcast version of Capcom’s fighting game a couple of decades ago, I’m familiar with that “you thought it was _, but it was me, Dio!" meme, and one of my young students has a proclivity for saying “ ZA WAARUDO" in the middle of lessons. Despite the fact that I am a video game nut who has lived in Japan for a very long time, I don’t know much about JoJo. Let’s get to it! Reviews & Mini-Views JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R ($49.99)Īlright, let me get some disclosures out of the way upfront. There’s also a decent-sized list of new sales to check out, plus the usual list of expiring discounts. There are a handful of new releases to look at, including Temtem, Circus Electrique, and Disney Dreamlight Valley. Today we’ve got a couple more reviews for you to enjoy, with JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R and Restless Soul taking their seats in the judgement chair. Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for September 6th, 2022.

Here’s where AfterShot has a bit of an advantage: It uses layers to apply edits, and extends its nondestructive editing to special effects filters. If, for instance, you take a series of photos under the same lighting, using similar exposure settings, you can modify one picture and apply those edits to all the others.īoth programs edit “nondestructively,” leaving your original image untouched. In addition, AfterShot doesn’t support video files, while Lightroom does.Įditing in Lightroom or AfterShot Pro can also be quite fast, with top-notch exposure, color, tone, and detail tools. We found that AfterShot Pro doesn’t support as many RAW file formats as Lightroom does, but Corel is adding more formats on an ongoing basis.īoth programs work well with TIFF and JPEG images, though AfterShot Pro supports such files only in RGB, and only up to 40 megapixels. If you, like most serious photographers, shoot RAW, you’ll want to be sure the software you choose supports your camera. AfterShot displays up to six images side by side, but swapping out images requires more steps.īoth Lightroom and AfterShot Pro are known as RAW workflow programs. Then, you can view, say, all the photos three stars or higher. You can quickly zoom into details, swap out a new select or candidate, and rate each using one to five stars and color flags (plus add keywords, if you didn’t do that automatically on import). Lightroom’s two-up side-by-side display compares a “select” image to a candidate. Both Lightroom and AfterShot enable fast comparing and sorting. You know that somewhere among those hundreds of pictures you took at the birthday party lurk a few gems-if only you could find them. Image: Sally Wiener Grotta & Daniel Grotta Six Shot: AfterShot Pro lets the user compare and sort up to six images at a time. But the scrappy newcomer has a nice selection of photo tools that will satisfy many users. The most popular professional software, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, a mature product ($150 for version 4), is smoother and more versatile. Fortunately, help is on the way: workflow software of the sort used by professional photographers is now filtering out to the masses in the form of a US $100 program, Corel AfterShot Pro. You may be unmotivated to try it out, but Olita's playing is both rewarding and stimulating. Please, I beg you, do not sleep on unprocessed music without lyrics. He becomes one with his guitar, dancing along with the phrases as each breath in leads up to a climax and each exhale makes its way to a resolution. He almost always plays with his eyes closed which is even more impressive considering he uses finger-picking techniques as opposed to strumming. To put it simply, watching Olita play is inspiring. A very skilled artist from UA is classical guitar student Olita. Let us not forget that good music can be classical too. You can listen to Dante Olita on YouTube and give him a follow on Instagram. Overall, there is great quality behind his production and each instrumental accompaniment and guitar riff seems to be carefully and effectively chosen to enhance his lyrics. I want to say moon nite draws inspiration from Radiohead and lightly resembles Eyedress with his laidback voice and almost somber guitar. “Shedding My Skin in the Front Yard” may give you the mental image of a heavy metal concert nightmare, though you would be surprised by its calm repetition. He presents a lovely softness in his voice and melodies alike as he sings about longing, loneliness and love: the three deadly ls. If you want to wallow in your sorrows but feel comforted that you are not alone, I suggest checking out moon nite. You can listen to moon nite on Spotify and Apple Music and give him a follow on Instagram. At times, she uses the common piano or drums melody but always manages to include something bizarre like zombie-esque screams, drilling noises or crackling static that elevates her creativity to a level like none other. With titles like “the promised land,” “I Don't Need to Be Human” and “child eater,” ettkhett’s music radiates an obscure vibe. What I admire about her music is that she is evidently imaginative and, through her music, carries a certain dark brilliance about her. She is a self-described industrial trip-hop producer which sounds like the perfect description to me - someone who knows nothing about subgenres of music and subgenres of those subgenres. 1, an artist by the name of ettkhett released her second strictly instrumental album. You can listen to ettkhett on Spotify and Apple Music and give her a follow on Instagram. Plus, listening to them now will grant you bragging rights in the future because you discovered them before they became a huge deal. After all, they may be in your psych discussion group or you might walk past them at the same time every Thursday afternoon on your way to the Student Union Memorial Center. Whether you find yourself in the same boat as me or not, I invite you to give these four artists a listen. Even better, I decided to abridge my search to strictly University of Arizona student artists and found quite a range of genres (although I will be making no attempt to define or identify them here). Since I spent the whole summer on a constant Tame Impala, Wallows and Phoenix loop, I figured the beginning of the school year would be the right time to start exploring once again as I melt on my way to class. No matter how boring or arduous life became, I at least had music to come back to. I even felt cool in the library while I was struggling so hard to understand cellular respiration and organelle functions. When I had new music to listen to, I looked forward to waking up, walking out the door and strolling to class with some fresh tunes to make me feel cool in front of all the strangers I walked past. I used to keep up with my Spotify-curated Discover Weekly playlist, and I used to spend my nights exploring indie music while surfing Pinterest trying to manifest my vision of a dream aesthetic.Īlthough simple, those times brought so much productivity. I was never - and still am not - quite sure why I became so apprehensive towards any new artists. By Noor Haghighiĭuring the past few summer months of unbearable sweating and Tucson monotony, I got stuck shuffling the same music I have been for years now. Digital illustration of alien listening to music in headphones. Mostly, those characters are used for emojis and non-ASCII characters. Some tweets could contain a Unicode character that is unreadable when we see it on an ASCII format. The code looks like this, # Example x = "Watch This Airport Get Swallowed Up By A Sandstorm In Under A Minute " # Lowercase the text x = x.lower() print(x) > watch this airport get swallowed up by a sandstorm in under a minute Remove Unicode characters That’s why lowering case on texts is essential. If we are not lowercase those, the stop word cannot be detected, and it will result in the same string. Suppose we want to remove stop words from our string, and the technique that we use is to take the non-stop words and combine those as a sentence. The reason why we are doing this is to avoid any case-sensitive process. The column I am most interested in is customer_reviews, however, upon taking a closer look, it currently has the review title, rating, review date, customer name, and review all in one cell separated by //.Before we are getting into processing our texts, it’s better to lowercase all of the characters first. While cleaning this data I ran into a problem I had not encountered before, and learned a cool new trick from to split a string from one column into multiple columns either on spaces or specified characters. Usually I have to modify and/or expand depending on the text format. The following workflow is what I was taught to use and like using, but the steps are just general suggestions to get you started. NOTE: If we were actually going to use this dataset for analysis or modeling or anything besides a text preprocessing demo, I would not recommend eliminating such a large percent of the rows. My new shape is 3,705 rows and 10 columns and I renamed it reviews_df. I changed the number_of_reviews column type from object to integer and then created a new DataFrame using only the rows with no more than 1 review. In order to make the dataset more manageable for this example, I first dropped columns with too many nulls and then dropped any remaining rows with null values. I conducted some basic data cleaning that I won’t go into detail about now, but you can read my post about EDA here if you want some tips. I’ll be using Python in Jupyter notebook. From there, before we can dig into analyzing, we will have to do some cleaning to break the text down into a format the computer can easily understand.įor this example, we’re examining a dataset of Amazon products/reviews which can be found and downloaded for free on data.world. Typically, whether we’re given the data or have to scrape it, the text will be in its natural human format of sentences, paragraphs, tweets, etc. The spam filter in your email and the spellcheck you’ve used since you learned to type in elementary school are some other basic examples of when your computer is understanding language.Īs a data scientist, we may use NLP for sentiment analysis (classifying words to have positive or negative connotation) or to make predictions in classification models, among other things. The fact that devices like Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa can (usually) comprehend when we ask the weather, for directions, or to play a certain genre of music are all examples of NLP. This is all changing though as advances in NLP are happening everyday. As you probably know, computers are not as great at understanding words as they are numbers. NLP is short for Natural Language Processing. NLP for Beginners: Cleaning & Preprocessing Text Data Sometimes displaying information is not enoughyou might want to update it as well.
